Food Services
The Food Services area is responsible to ensure that the appropriate Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) processes are in place to identify and prevent microbial and other hazards in all food production for the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games. Such preventive control systems with documentation and verification are widely recognized by scientific authorities and international organizations as the most effective approach available for producing safe food.
Proper nutritional support will be ensured through the provision of a variety of meals and snacks that fill the daily requirements of individuals in a cold weather climate, taking into consideration any and all special dietary, cultural and religious requirements.
Food Services will work closely with the Sponsorship area to feature the use of Sponsor-provided products, where available. Historically, such products have included beverages (including bottled water), snacks, energy bars and drinks, dairy products and juices.
Food Services will also work with the Logistics area, as needed, on the delivery of box lunches to the various World Winter Games competition and non-competition venues.
It is currently anticipated that Food Services will manage the provision of in excess of 150,000 meals at the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games.
