International Volunteer Program

The International Volunteer Program selects volunteers from around the globe to contribute to the Games in order to create awareness and growth of the Special Olympics movement in communities worldwide. International volunteers are selected, oriented and trained to support the Games and send a message to the world that the Special Olympics movement is globally inclusive and thrives on the talents, skills and contributions of volunteers everywhere.

Volunteers from outside the host country or nation have been part of Special Olympics World Games since the first Games held in Chicago in 1968. Increased interest from international volunteers in attending Games has been evident, as volunteers have conveyed a desire to expand their level of service to the organization while at the same time experiencing a new culture. Special Olympics desires to attract and recognize notable contributions of volunteers while balancing World Games volunteer needs.
